and it does! It decreased login time by about 4s across our 100mbps lan.
It now responds in approximately 0.5s. Thanks Bill!!! 8)

Here is what I did for reference, I'm running debian-sparc unstable on
an Ultra5 Series3:

1) apt-get source apt-get source libssl0.9.6
2) cd libssl0.9.6g/
3) vim Configure
4) /debian-sparc-v9
5) "debian-sparc-v9","gcc:-mv8 -DB_ENDIAN -DTERMIO -O3 -mcpu=v8 -mtune=ultrasparc -fomit-frame-pointer -Wall::-D_REENTRANT:-ldl:BN_LLONG RC4_CHAR DES_UNROLL BF_PTR::::::::::dlfcn:linux-shared:-fPIC",
6) dpkg-buildpackage
7) Went to lunch to eat a sammich (recompile/rebuild takes about 45minutes)
8) dpkg -i ../*.deb
9) /etc/init.d/ssh restart
