Re: [PLUG] LAN on RedHat?
|
I am using a Gateway 9300, RH7.3, Orinoco Gold with a Linksys WAP11. It was
no easy feat getting wireless set up. My card was recognized, which I did
through KWifiManager, and checked the modules with lsmod. Everything was in
place and there wasn't anything showing me it wasn't working. I finally
started up Ethereal to see what was going on, and all of a sudden I was
getting through my router. I know that Red Hat 8.0 has a Wireless lan
section when setting up your ethernet card(s).

Brian,
Please tell us what part of the wifi network you are having difficulty
with. Is it setting up the access point or is it configuring the client
computer (desktop or laptop). Certainly RedHat will automatically install
and assist in configuring a LAN during installation. It should recognize
most any NIC during installation. Then you have the Network Configuration
tool under System Settings for further configuration, if ncessary.
What access point are you using? Is it integrated with your DSL
modem/router/hub?
Your client will have to be configured to use the wifi adapter you have, be
it a PCI card in a desktop or a pcmcia cardn a laptop. I haven't setup a
desktop so I can't really give any advice there. But I have setup a laptop
(Toshiba Tecra 8000) with an Orinoco Silver wifi pcmcia card. I used the
"pcmcia-cs" package to provide the pc-card services. This worked well but
it took me a bit of time to figure it out. That was under RH7.3. I'm
going to try it under RH8.0 soon enough so I'll let you know how I fare.
