[PLUG] ATA100 drive on non-ATA100 controller?

I have a Promise ATA100 controller on my mobo, along with a non-ATA100
controller. And the ATA100 is going bad - my filesystem corruption was
apparently due to that. I've changed cables; drives; OS versions; I still
get grief from the install. Either kernel OOPSes during install, or
problems finishing the install.

The Win2K drive on the non-ATA100 controller has been just fine. No errors
at all. :-) So I'm thinking of moving the ATA100 drive over to the othe
controller. I bought an add-on ATA133 controller, but my installer
(Libranet 2.7) doesn't see it at all, so I can't seem to install Linux
onto a drive connected to the add-on.

<SIGH>

So, can I reliably use an ATA100 drive on a non-ATA100 controller?
Specifically, using a non-ATA100 cable? If not, then using an ATA100
cable. :-)
