[PLUG] Open-enrollment Perl classes coming in January

People often ask me if I know of any open-enrollment Perl classes
around here, and I usually don't. But now as an experiment, I am
offering two such classes at the end of January.

Perl, of course, is a well-known and useful tool for all sorts of
Linux tasks. It is useful for scripting, log file analysis,
developing network clients and servers, web applications, and almost
anything else. It is included with every major distribution of Linux.

I hope folks on this list find this announcement useful, and I
apologize if anyone considers it inappropriate.

Mark Jason Dominus will be delivering TWO Perl Training events in
January at Compu-Tutor:

Perl Programming Repair Shop and Red Flags
        Perl Introduction

If you are interested in attending either of these two classes, please
contact Compu-Tutor at kgraves@compu-tutor.net or call 610-260-0300.

Perl Program Repair Shop and Red Flags

Course specifications
Course Code: PRL-201

Course Length: 2 Half Days

Training Dates: Jan. 30 and Feb. 6 (8:30AM - 12:00PM)

Course description

Overview: You've probably been working too hard when you program,
writing twenty lines of code when you only needed ten. But there is a
better way, and we'll show it to you. You'll learn how to improve your
own code and the code of others, making it cleaner, more readable,
more reusable, and more efficient, while at the same time making it
30-50% smaller. Smaller code contains fewer bugs and takes less time
to maintain.

We'll focus on 'red flags', which are obvious warning signs in your
code that are plainly visible once you know what to look for, and on
techniques that require little complex thought or ingenuity.

Prerequisites: Basic familiarity with Perl is required.

LOCATION: Compu-Tutor, Inc. - 1100 E. Hector Street, Conshohocken, PA

FLEET DISCOUNTED COST: $382.50

Perl Introduction
Course Specifications
Course number: PRL-101

Course length: 3 Days

Training Dates: Jan. 27 - 29, 2003 (8:30AM - 4:30PM)

Course Description

Overview: Perl is well known for its power and ease of use. It is used
extensively by programmers, system administrators and end-users to
automate tasks, manipulate data and implementing HTML applications.

Target Student: Anyone needing to read or write Perl scripts of simple
to medium complexity. Participants should be from a Unix Environment
because the course is taught from a UNIX standpoint.

Prerequisites: The participant should have at least one year of
programming experience in another programming language such as Korn
shell or C. Participants should understand the UNIX operating system
prior to taking this class. This experience can be gained by
attending the Unix Introduction and Korn Shell Scripting Courses from
Compu-Tutor, Inc.

Delivery Method: Each of these six sections takes about one
half-day. The labs move quickly, only about 30 minutes each, which is
unique for Perl Training. On every slide or two is a micro-lab: An
example program, and a suggestion that the students try.

LOCATION: Compu-Tutor, Inc. - 1100 E. Hector Street, Conshohocken, PA

FLEET DISCOUNTED COST: $1147.50
