One of the RH guys tells me they have 'redhat-config-xfree86' instead. 
They removed xf86cfg from RH8 and provided their own tool.  Maybe that
will work better for you?  (And if not, the proper place to reports bugs
against it is RH. :)  That's actually what they want.)
