Yeah, but...
There is also the issue that most printer manufactures want to sell you 
new printers -- consequently they don't provide CUPS drivers for many 
printers that still work quite serviceably in OS 9.

Gimp-print is a help for some main stream printers, but not that many, 
and no help at all for any multi-function device.

But then again, printers are dirt cheap these days. For $100 bucks 
today, you can get one that prints circles around the $500 models of 
just 2 years ago!
