[PLUG] cd burn && hfs (Mac)

I tried burning a cd for a MacOS friend:

    mkisofs -r -hfs -o cd_image my_dir

but this doesn't encode MacOS creator/file types. I've read the
mkisofs man page three times now, and I still don't see what I'm
missing. I thought it should look at my file extensions (.jpg) or
magic numbers or something.

Anyone know how to do this?

On the wish list would be to set a volume name, but -mac-name results
in a complaint:

  jeff@asterix:tmp $ mkisofs -r -hfs -mac-name My_Vol_Name -o cd_image my_vol_name/
mkisofs: Warning: no Apple/Unix files will be decoded/mapped
mkisofs: No such file or directory. Invalid node - My_Vol_Name
  jeff@asterix:tmp $

Tia.
