I'm not sure if this > can be done or even how to do it. If you have another system running RedHat 8.0, you could modify the cd images to use an updated kernel. There are various resources around the internet that detail hacking anaconda (the redhat installer) and rolling your own cdroms. Just replacing the kernel with a new one isn't too hard.
