mwm and twm is what i used to run when i got
tired of gnome on my underpowered laptop.  With
mwm (motif, either openmotif or lesstif) however
you'll have to edit the menu if you want more than
a simple xterminal out of the menu.

Right now I switched to just plain X -query myserver
to run off the entire session off my more capable
server.
