OK the only MAJOR disappointment thus far is that the antenna is soldered on. This can be worked around but it's not quite as clean as what I was hoping for. *grumble*

On the upside, it'll happily do IPv6.

Can't wait to get my grubby hands on a couple.

(replying to myself, for the benefit of the list)

OK two are on order. BONUS: If I was reading the specs right it has TWO ethernet ports (one at 10Mbps, the other 10/100) plus the prism wireless (doesn't say what version of prism). A very very cool concept came to mind when I saw that. Question is whether I can fit it into the firmware.

OK so you plug one ethernet port into your home network, one into your cable modem or DSL (if you have it) and the wireless antenna goes up on the roof. You've got a three legged router. From your home you can get to the mesh or the Internet. From the Internet you can't get anywhere because it is firewalled inbound. From the mesh you can get to the internet, but with access controls and bandwidth limiting.

Say, for example, you want to share a portion of your Internet bandwidth with the people on your town subnet. You permit routing to an internal IPv6->IPv4 gateway and then on out to the Internet. People from other towns are on another subnet so they can't get through. Or you can limit it even further, to a few mesh IP's or smaller subnets (each home can be a subnet) so you become your own ISP when you're roaming around the area with your PDA or laptop.

If there is enough room in there for a tiny cron daemon you could do traffic shaping by time of day. While you're at work, open up the bandwidth to full throttle. But when you're at home, limit mesh users to 128K of bandwidth or whatever.

These are just ideas, intended to inspire discussion and further ideas. I'll have a better idea of what is realistic when the boxes arrive and I see what can be squeezed into firmware.
