If all you're doing is basic recording on the line-in jack I would look at the command line tool sox (sound exchage). It is not the friendliest thing at first but I use it in some shell scripts with cron to automate recording NPR shows during the week...I just leave the radio on and hooked up to the sound card, really low tech. I pipe the output through lame to get smaller files. It works great and supports a ton of formats. Depending on your distro it's probably already installed. A friend of mine wants to convert some of his tapes to CD, and I said maybe I could bring my laptop over to his place and plug his rec out into my laptop's mic in. My laptop is running redhat 9. I searched the web for sound recording software for Linux and found nothing good. Any help is appreciated.
