what i usually do is replace the

root=LABEL=/

with

root=/dev/hda2 (or whatever boot device is appropriate).

Since you are probably using grub if you are using RH9, you can edit this
from the boot menu (although don't ask me how right now).

I compiled a new kernel for RH 9+ (severn 2 - Fedora Core) - when it
boots if fail to find the disk partion labels - ie: LABEL=/

Where is this information defined and how can I force it to be
recognized on boot?
