not that I know how to use it and all, but, doesn't oracle have built in replication? Assuming that the two machines are running the same OS (even if they aren't, I don't think it matters much). -b -----Original Message----- From: plug-admin@lists.phillylinux.org [mailto:plug-admin@lists.phillylinux.org]On Behalf Of beldon@speakeasy.net Sent: Thursday, October 09, 2003 10:40 AM To: plug@lists.phillylinux.org Subject: [PLUG] rsync and Oracle? Does anyone have any information, experience, or resources related to using rsync to replicate data volumes on an Oracle database? Related to this, any (FOSS or not) HA applications? Here's the scenario: I work at Mohegan Sun Casino, and we're installing a system which uses an Oracle back-end database on SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8. We are a 24x7x365.25 operation-- i.e. we never close. Because of that, we will have two complete systems in two separate buildings about one half mile apart, and connected by a gigabit fiber connection. In the event of any kind of failure on box "foo", we want box "bar" to take over functionality within milliseconds and be as up-to-date as practical. I intend to use rsync to keep the OS and binary portions in sync, but I'm not sure the overhead will play well with the database operation. For the record, I am currently looking at SteelEye as a possible software solution and EMC as a possible hardware solution. Any others? Thanks! -Beldon _________________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements - http://lists.netisland.net/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion -- http://lists.netisland.net/mailman/listinfo/plug _________________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements - http://lists.netisland.net/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion -- http://lists.netisland.net/mailman/listinfo/plug
