Watch out for the Mandrake 9.2 / LG CD drive problem; the one that can 
completely disable your drive.  Make sure you either use the updated 
Mandrake ISOs or do not have an LG drive.

Sounds cool.  What do you think about using GTK+ for the front end?  
That would make it easy and free to port to Window$ and maybe other OSes.
