According to John Lavin: > I'll be blowing away the xp install, and going with debian - just like > the rest of my computers. Anyone have experience with this hardware? My research on the R series earlier this year was very discouraging. The ACPI kernel support has improved since then, but peripherals like the modem and perhaps even the 802.11 may not work. So I avoided the R30 and got an A30 instead. It's served me well, though I think IBM is starting to wimp out on its keyboard design; the A30's keyboard isn't quite up to IBM's usual standards. Given adequate Linux support, the checklist is: Keyboard first; pointing device second; LCD third. All else is either upgradable or of little importance. And definitely stick with the Thinkpad line. Ignore the heathens who don't appreciate a TrackPoint's sublime qualities. (Compaq?!
