... we were wondering about SuSE's fate, now that they are owned by Novell (as Ximian is now owned by Novell). Got this from one of my Novell mailing lists ... ------- Included Stuff Follows ------- Novell marries SuSE to Ximian desktop [0] By John Leyden Posted: 07/01/2004 at 17:01 GMT Novell's latest version of its enterprise Linux desktop, Ximian Desktop 2, now supports SuSE LINUX Desktop and SuSE LINUX 9. Availability of the technology comes after Novell's November 2003 acquisition of SuSE Linux and its August 2003 swoop on Ximian. The combined resources of the two companies are central to Novell's plans to transform itself into a Linux powerhouse. The update to Ximian Desktop includes the Ximian Edition of OpenOffice.org 1.1, a GAIM instant messenger client and updated Ximian Red Carpet 2.0 configuration management client software. Ximian Desktop 2 also includes a Mozilla-based Web browser and an email/personal information client called Ximian Evolution. Novell's Ximian Desktop 2 is available for free download from here [1]. The professional edition of Ximian Desktop 2, which includes technical support, automated software updates, Java support, and various other bells and whistles is available for purchase from Ximian's store here [2]. The professional edition costs from $99 and up, depending on support options. --------- Included Stuff Ends --------- [0] http://theregister.co.uk/content/4/34753.html [1] http://www.ximian.com/download [2] http://www.ximian.com/products/desktop ___________________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion -- http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
