[PLUG] [SECURITY] New gnupg packages fix cryptographic weakness in ElGamal signing keys
|
For those who don't subscribe to debian-security-announce, note the
attached bug announcement about gpg. I believe we had a thread on
this list a while back about how you really didn't want to sign with
El Gamal keys anyway, so this probably won't affect many here.
The bug fix just disables signing with an El Gamal key, it doesn't
actually change mathematics.

- --------------------------------------------------------------------------
Package : gnupg
Vulnerability : cryptographic weakness
Problem-Type : local
Debian-specific: no
CVE Ids : CAN-2003-0971
Phong Nguyen identified a severe bug in the way GnuPG creates and uses
ElGamal keys for signing. This is a significant security failure
which can lead to a compromise of almost all ElGamal keys used for
signing.
This update disables the use of this type of key.
For the current stable distribution (woody) this problem has been
fixed in version 1.0.6-4woody1.
For the unstable distribution, this problem has been fixed in version
1.2.4-1.
We recommend that you update your gnupg package.
