I noticed that in your second comment, you mentioned strategy-type games. I just thought I would add that Unreal Tournament 2003 and the just-released Unreal Tournament 2004 have linux versions, and there are downloadable demos. The UT2003 demo runs fine on my Athlon 850 with a GeForce2 MX (32 MB) video card, if I move a couple of sliders down from the maximum in the game's video options.
