[PLUG] id: cannot find name for user ID

I upgraded to Mandrake 10.0 Community and I'm getting this weird error
when I log in:

id: cannot find name for user ID 501
and my shell prompts look like this: [I have no name!@athlon brainbuz]$

There's nothing wrong with my passwd file that I can see.

When I type id in a shell, I get:
uid=501 gid=501(brainbuz)
groups=501(brainbuz),22(cdrom),80(cdwriter),505(burning),506(everyone)

If I type id followed by either a username or uid I get a not found error.
