Since you've told us nothing about your laptop or the projector,
that would be rather difficult. (The OS version is pretty
irrelevant. The X version might matter a little bit.)



I don't know much about the projector other than it seems to handle up to 1024x768. I've tried reducing the resolution and color depth.

I actually don't run Linux very often on this laptop. I'm not sure which file is relevant; XF86config, XF86config-4, or both. When I used Mandrake's config utility, the date stamps are updated for both files. I don't remember if I installed nVidia's driver or not. (I don't have access to the laptop at this moment.)

Ideally, I'd the both the projector and the built-in display to work at the same time.

The last time my laptop was used at a presentation, we accessed it through XDMCP.
