But what is the recommended way to install into partitions > that host one Linux distro (Mandrake 9.2) without disturbing a productively functioning > backup distro (Red Hat 7.3)? At least on SuSE, the installer generally handles this. It detects installed partitions, asks if you want to update them. If not, you just point it at empty partitions or other space, and it installs a new copy in that location. If you're not sure, it's good to make a backup and/or install to a different disk, unplugging your working disk during the install. Unless someone can tell you Ubuntu has a safe installer, I'd be a little paranoid and protect your existing system. Once it's installed, you just need to work out the boot setup. If your existing systems uses lilo or grub as the primary boot loader, just boot to whatever os you installed that from, and add an entry for your newly installed system. -- Kevin ___________________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion -- http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
