Title: Back to the Future: Free and Open Source Software in IT practices and business

Abstract:In the early dawn of computers people had software written which
exactly met their needs.  They owned the software, and they could do
anything they wanted with it.  Then in the 1980s packaged, binary-only software
came into being and everything started to go downhill.  In this talk this
phenomenon is examined, and shown where and why it fails.  The new path of
software, Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) is also examined, along with
the changes needed for survival of IT businesses and investors.
