[PLUG] gpg "buffer shorter than subpacket"

After fetching a bunch of keys, I'm seeing a bunch of errors:

    jeff@asterix:Mutt $ gpg --update-trustdb
    gpg: buffer shorter than subpacket
    gpg: signature packet without timestamp
    gpg: buffer shorter than subpacket
    gpg: signature packet without keyid
    gpg: buffer shorter than subpacket
    gpg: buffer shorter than subpacket
    gpg: signature packet without timestamp
    gpg: buffer shorter than subpacket
    gpg: signature packet without keyid
    gpg: buffer shorter than subpacket
gpg: public key 98645519 is 43099 seconds newer than the signature
    gpg: buffer shorter than subpacket
    gpg: signature packet without timestamp
    etc.

Any ideas what this means? Google searching suggests it means a
corrupted key ring, but doesn't suggest why or what to do about it.
