First thing - do you know of any other 12" notebooks that display
greater than 1024x768? I sure don't..

The other thing - my wife uses a 12" PB as her regular system, and I
sometimes use it when we're on a trip (less to carry than my 15" PB),
neither of us find the screen resolution limiting. You just have to
think about your intended use of the machine. If you want something
small & light to do email, browsing and office apps, it's totally
fine. If you want to do mobile video editing, it's probably too small
for you, unless you're only using iMovie.

Part of the reason why Macs do more with less screen res is the single
menu bar, and the lack of toolbar overload that you typically get on
both Windows & Linux. On Win or Linux, each application typically has
its own title bar, menu bar, toolbars, etc. It just doesn't work like
that on the Mac.. Some window managers let you configure apps to run
like that (I believe Metacity is one)
