I recently upgraded my machine to Sarge. Last night I tried to burn a CD (using XCDRoast) and it could not find I went to try Stephen's suggestion last night but it was suddenly working--both drives came up on XCDRoast's bus scan as they should. I had done a cold restart before posting my question so I have no idea what happened. I buy only name-brand hardware (the IDE controller is on an ABIT motherboard in this case) to avoid this kind of crap but nothing's perfect I guess. I burned about 15 CDs for a family reunion last night with no problem. I will take a look at k3b sometime. One issue that's seldom discussed with open-source software is that once you've spent the time to master a program that's less-than-user-friendly, you (or at least I) become resistant to trying something else.
