Greetings, all. I'm new to Philly, and to this list. This may be my first post (though I can't remember). I used to have something like the "geek net" being described when I lived near MIT. It was pretty neat, and worked well enough when the folks running it weren't stress testing the system. see here: http://pdos.csail.mit.edu/roofnet/ and here: http://pdos.csail.mit.edu/roofnet/doku.php?id=map nodes consisted of small form factor PCs with PCI->PCMCIA adaptors and PCMCIA 802.11b cards with external antenna jacks. On each rooftop was an omnidirectional antenna. each node ran a DHCP serving 1918 addresses on its ethernet interface, unless it was an internet gateway node. i think the whole project is on sourceforge... /chris ___________________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion -- http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
