i've got a philips unit that i recommend against.

iirc, it's philips model number <mumble>727<mumble>

it's region-free function works by remote control secret button key
sequence.  you can choose your region number, or set it to 0 (region
free).

i recommend against this one because playing anything other than region
1 discs the audio and video get way out of sync with one another.  at
least a half second or so.  it's very annoying.
