I've been using Debian for years but I thought I'd give Ubuntu a try. So I put ubuntu onto a second hd, /dev/hdb1. Once I had everything usable, I copied over my personal files and took out the old hda, put the hdb in its place (so what was hdb is now hda) and put another drive in the place of the old hdb. So, I used to have /dev/hda1 Debian /dev/hdb1 Ubuntu Now I have /dev/hda1 (formerly /dev/hdb1) Ubuntu /dev/hdb1 Third, previously unused drive for storage. When I made the switch, I changed /boot/grub/menu.lst to reflect the new drive configuration. But when I later recompiled my kernel and installed it, grub rewrote the menu to the previous configuration, looking for kernels etc. on /dev/hdb1. I also noticed just a while a go that df -ah lists two /dev/hdb1's, one mounted / and one mounted /media/disk. /media/disk really is /dev/hdb1, but / is really mounted on /dev/hda1. So something tells me that I have to do more than manually edit /boot/grub/menu.lst when I change my drive configuration. Can anyone tell me how to do this properly? ___________________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion -- http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
