Re: [PLUG] wrt54g driving me nuts.

Doug,

What is the latest HW version I should be looking for.

If you want to run Sveasoft's firmware, the hw version is very important.

From Sveasoft's info, the hardware versions are 1.0 thru 4.0, but you can only
tell by serial number ( on the outside of the box ). I use hw v2.0 thru v3.0

Note the 5.0 units may not work ( they are much different than earlier versions )

*** Linksys router versions ***

Known serial numbers (first few characters) vs versions:
G
CDF0 = WRT54G v1.0
CDF1 = WRT54G v1.0
CDF2 = WRT54G v1.1
CDF3 = WRT54G v1.1
CDF5 = WRT54G v2.0
CDF7 = WRT54G v2.2
CDF8 = WRT54G v3.0
CDF9 = WRT54G v3.1
CDFA = WRT54G v4.0

GS
CGN0 = WRT54GS v1.0
CGN1 = WRT54GS v1.0
CGN2 = WRT54GS v1.1
CGN3 = WRT54GS v2.0
CGN4 = WRT54GS v2.1
CGN5 = WRT54GS v3.0
CGN6 = WRT54GS v4.0

TR ( portable unit)
SJH0 = WTR54GS v1.0

Hardware officially supported by Sveasoft firmware (latest releases):
Alchemy 1.0: WRT54G v1.0 v1.1 v2.0 v2.2 v3.0 v3.1 & WRT54GS v1.0 v1.1 v2.0 v2.1
Talisman/basic 1.1: WRT54G v2.0 v2.2 v3.0 v3.1 v4.0 & WRT54GS v1.0 v1.1 v2.0 v2.1 v3.0

The very new WRT54G v5.0 and WRT54GS v4.0 are being tested...

What changes do you make in your setup 54's to make them access points? I
assume you just connect to one of the LAN ports, make the changes and go.

The WRT-54G's *are* access points. The WAP-54's are not supported yet as far as I understand and lack protection of the boot code - avoid them.

Yes, I just uploaded firmware through the LAN port, re-configure, and go.
They all run in WDS (repeater mode), single hop, back to the main radio,
but some repeaters also feed a wired Ethernet connection for their hangar
building as the radio doesn't go through the hangar walls.

What sveasoft version should I be looking for?
I'm using Alchemy-1.0 (stable release), the Talisman series hasn't
been stable enough, but Talisman/Basic 1.1 looks promising.

The WiFi is also content filtered (dansguardian) and Bandwidth shaped
by running all connections through ZoneCD, http://PublicIP.net

This has prevented any abuse over the last year, even though
the signal might be usable out a few miles with the right antenna.

Thanks Lee,

 Yes I am aware of having to be in the same subnet. I think I might have a
bad box at this point. I was going to try to upgrade the SW but if I
cannot even communicate with it that is not possible. What is the latest
HW version I should be looking for? The one I have is rev2 with SW dated
1/04.

What sveasoft version should I be looking for?

Thanks, Doug
