[PLUG] gentoo grub troubles

I just finished a stage 3 install of gentoo for x86_64. I am having
some trouble configuring grub. The kernel starts to boot and I get
the following error message:

VFS: Cannot open root device "sda3" or unknown block(0,0)
Please append a correct "root" boot option
Kernel panic-not syncing:VFS:unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)

My grub.conf is as follows:

default 0
timeout 30
splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz
title=Gentoo Linux 2.6.13
root (hd0,0)
kernel /kernel-2.6.13-gentoo-r6 root=/dev/sda3

/dev/sda3 is my root partition, it is a SATA drive

Any idea what is going on?

Thanks,

MIchael
