I really suggest getting a wintv pvr 250 or 350.
Avoid the mce versions as I don't think any of them are supported under
linux.
I've been using one for quite some time with mythtv to record tv shows.
I currently have 2 250gb maxtor drives lvm'd as one volume to record my
shows... 
Its nice and handy that the card hardware mpeg 2 encodes for you.
Very low system utilization.
