This does not account for overhead from TCP and friends.  The rule of
thumb I always use for calculating throughput is to divide the raw
bandwidth by 10, so 1 Mbit =~ 100 KB/s.  Other folks on this list may
be able to give a more detailed answer on throughput, though.

I would suggest that he use thumbnails and/or break up his pictures
across multiple pages. :-)
