I'm guessing what you think is a "MOTD from Redhat" is really just
your .bashrc file calling fortune(6).  A quick search on google
suggests the song was around at least as early as 1992, which would
predate the 1.0 release of Redhat by 2 years.

I couldn't find the author, but chances are it was written by some
bored Computer Science student.
