Re: [PLUG] encoding to WMA

I think the problem is, there is no way to encode WMA natively on Linux. My last resort will be using WINE, or wait for MS to support AVI (their own container).

In Windows I use DVDdecrypt, DVDshrink, and VirtualDub-mpeg2, all
freeware, which allow me to make audio copies (video to if you want it) of
DVD's in virtually any format you want. Nice for taking audio from music
DVD's for your non-video music collection. The VirtualDub also will
compress/recompress video/audio to tons of formats including wmv/wma. I
just converted an Eric Clapton DVD to WMV but kept the AC3 5.1 audio.
Original size was 4.6G VOB after combining and it compressed to 900meg wmv
and looks good. I am an audio freak and I can tolerate (slightly) lower
quality video but not audio!

I am not sure what the xbox360 natively will decode but I know it is more
then wmv/wma. Won't it do mp3, aac, m4a? It supports HD so I would not be
surprized if it did AC3. It also may do "WMA10 pro" which will compress
AC3 and retain channels. At least that is what I read.

On this subject... netgear just started shipping the eva8000 HD media
center box. You no longer need an xbox for HD media transport. It has many
features includng UPNP, so you also do not need (windows) media center to
make it work. I use an unslung NSLU2 here as my audio/video server. I have
been waiting for a good media extender and the xbox is overkill as I do
not play computer games.
