RE: [PLUG] vmware server: networking and clipboard

First, what VMWare product are you running? Server? Workstation? Player?

Unless you have some kind of routing / gateway setup on you linux box, you will need to have a card in the VM share the IP of eth1 and then have another card with a private IP.

Card 1 = NAT with eth1
Card 2 = bridged with eth0 if you have your machine connect to a switch or something on a lan. It can get it's own IP on your lan this way.

You may have better luck if you put some kind of router / firewall / gateway device in between the DSL modem & your computer. Then your computer will only have 1 internal IP address and your VM can have a bridged interface with it's own internal IP (using the routers DHCP).

If you are using the free server version (that's what I use), there doesn't appear to be any clipboard sharing, but for file transfer, I can just do FTP, SCP, Samba shares, etc.

Hope that gives you at least a starting point.

I am looking for help or documentation for configuring vmware networking. I have not been able to find anything useful myself.

host = ubuntu 6.06 (dapper)
vm = w2k pro
on host, eth0 = lan, eth1 = dsl modem

The first time I set this up, the vm was accessing the internet but not the lan. I had to delete the vm and recreate. Now it seems to access neither. I am having trouble figuring this out from the documentation provided on the vmware site.

It seems that I need to set up some sort of virtual lan between the host and the vm in order to share files and access the clipboard between the two. Again, I can't figure this out from the documentation provided on the vmware site.

Any help, or a good URL, will be most appreciated.
