A big part of this question depends on how the bandwidth is calculated.  For instance, some colos charge for transfer.  Ie, you can transfer up to 2 gigabytes per month over our lines, regardless of whether you do it all in one day or slowly over the 30.  Other colos, such as the one I'm using, charge for bandwidth using the 95/5 rule.  I pay for a 1 Mbps stream every month, but the connection has a top speed of 10 Mbps.  At the end of the month, they take the highest 5% of my traffic, disregard it, and charge me for the average bandwidth used by the lowest 95%.  I then get charged for every Mbps I go over the amount purchased, which is much more expensive than purchasing a 10 Mbps connection.

Well, what's your existing pipe? Your ISP probably specifies it in bits per
second. In which case:

monthly use (Megabytes)= (bits-per-second/8) * 60 * 60 * 24 * 30 / 1048576
