Re: [PLUG] bandwidth calcuations

A T1 line (1.5 Mbps) maxed out 24/7 for 30 days would use:

1.5 Mbps / 8 bits in a byte = 0.1875 MB/s (bandwidth)

0.1875 MB/s * 60 sec = 11.25 MB/min

11.25 MB/min * 60 min = 675 MB/hour

675 MB/hour * 24 hours = 16,200 MB/day

16,200 MB/day * 30 days = 486,000 MB/month

A maxed out T1 line (in either direction, 1.5 Mbps up & down) would be able to pass 486,000 MB or 474.61 GB (486000 / 1024) of data.

Your actual bandwidth used will be QUITE less I hope. It would be VERY hard to actually reach this theoretical limit.

So with a T1, if it was maxed my montly usage would be 463,485Mb? that doesn't sound right to me.

Well, what's your existing pipe? Your ISP probably specifies it in bits per
second. In which case:

monthly use (Megabytes)= (bits-per-second/8) * 60 * 60 * 24 * 30 / 1048576
