my plan is to get it working, then reset file permissions to 755. i
agree that in general it's a bad idea, but in the interest of
troubleshooting sometimes i think it's necessary...

making files world writable is a very bad thing and gets you nothing besides
potential security liabilities etc. there's nothing "less readable" about
setting the permissions to 755.
