Like learning a foreign language, the best way to get familiar with UNIX, Linux, or any other environment is to actually use it. What's most important is what you actually want to _do_ with your skills, since setting up a DNS server is not much like building source from SVN. One tool I would always learn first is rdiff-backup, so you can back up your machine easily. That way, when you inevitably make a mistake while experimenting, you can restore your system back to a healthy state. Attachment:
