i think it hasn't been done because of possible security reasons... you could always keep a cygwin install and putty on a cd or usb flash and then use that when you want to check it from other places to ssh in and forward the X session for the program... or carry around a knoppix disc for the same purpose (the preferred method, since it'd be more secure) or set up nomachine on the box and carry the client around on a USB... etc.
