for what it's worth, i believe you can mount Samba like NFS (in windows it's called "mapping a drive")... but i'd love to hear some confirmation on this from the samba geeks in here.

if you're anxious, i'm SURE it's in the documentation

Eric,
        You're right... same deal in Gnome... the share is available via the
GUI, but not mounted in the traditional sense.
