[PLUG] ethics of filters

I guess this is probably a really bad time to mention the whitelist-only
solution :)

Last time I brought it up here, I could hear the sounds of torches being
lit. And no, it's not a business solution.

I'd like to put in a good word for our filter of choice, Xwall
(ceratec.net). It's not linux, but I hear it's being ported over. It
cost me about $400 flat. No yearly fee. Support whether you're
licensed or not. Active and bright user community. Highly
configurable. Can make use of blacklists. Sits right in front of our
Exchange server with no difficulties ever in 4 years. But you have to
do the tuning....

The buttocks-brained consultants who sold us on the SNAP server were
reps for a $4k+ filter. When I showed them Xwall, they started using
it, as they could no longer justify selling one for 10x what it cost.

It's breathing easier these days because it got a new SonicWall that's
been helping it a lot.

Now if we could only relieve ourselves of Exchange.....
