Elsevier has a long history in Europe. They are an Anglo-Dutch publisher who purchased W.B. Saunders back in 2001, I think. Saunders was mainly a medical publisher and owned Mosby as well. Saunders also owned Harcourt Education (formerly Harcourt and Harcourt Brace Janovich) who you may know publishes school textbooks. Before 2001, Elsevier was mainly in Europe with some business in Asia.
