Do remember that DVDs for movies that are bought at <insert DVD store
here> are encrypted with CSS and that simply renaming the file may not
be enough.  Also, I wanted to mention that the DVD camcorders suck..
They suck because you have to use their stupid proprietary software to
work with their proprietary video that is recorded to the discs.
Tried several different methods to extract MPEG 2/4 video and nothing
seemed to work.  I think we eventually had to HandBrake the video off
the disc (as opposed to copying the files to the harddrive and using
that) to get some kind video that we could finally then import into
iMovie.
