I don't hate it. I love it compared to XP which is what most of our computers run. But I prefer the Ubuntu flavors. Unfortunately, not much work has been done to get Ubuntu to integrate into a multi-OS environment. That seems to
be where the commercial Suse excels. In other words, I wouldn't run it at home, but it's great at work. yes, i do agree certainly that ubuntu is quite lacking there.
That's kind of a puzzling statement. Why would you prefer to administer something less stable? Job security? Like feeling needed by your co-workers? it's not that i want to administer something less stable; hence the "but" and not "so" ;)
it is stable but the reason i wouldn't want to administrate it is because the paths for certain binaries, certain permissions, configuration scripts, etc. all are rather convoluted to me. this can make interacting with it from a behind-the-curtain context rather frustrating. but yes, i bet it beats the pants off administrating a windows network (or, ugh, a novell-only one. netware? yikes).
If I am going to sell any of these windows users on Linux, it better be seamlessly compatible and it better be more stable than what they are
currently using. Maybe things will change with Samba 4, but right now, Ubuntu isn't ready for the multi-platform enterprise.
hmm. well, i can certainly understand that aspect. a bit OT but did *buntu mention a projection date for when samba 4 would be in their stable repos?
