well, i was aware that dsl uses fluxbox (i think puppy does as well... or maybe windowmaker? i forget. anyone know off the top of their head?)

however, if he wants to use KDE programs, all he needs is the qt libraries and the kde libraries, he doesn't need a complete kde install. :)
it is for this reason that you can use KDE programs in gnome, and vice versa.

Damm Small Linux can run off a thumb drive but it uses flux box as the window manager.   I use it inside a virtual machine on my winXP laptop without any problems.  I have used it to boot from the thumb drive but the VM gives me more options.
