i agree. to draw a somewhat accurate if not rather maudlin analogy, cancer is easier to prevent by practicing proper health from birth on rather than trying to remove it later; linux is easier for complete newbies to adopt than seasoned windows users. windows users will mostly likely only "learn" linux if they have the drive to and if they don't, then it's probably better to not fight against it because then you'll just be wasting your breath, their time, and both of your energies.

(i have a knack for making potentially politically offensive statements, so here's my disclaimer: i'm not trying to make light of the horror of cancer, as i've lost an aunt to ovarian cancer three years ago. since, however, it has a rather unique set of characteristics, i find it helpful to use it as an analogy sometimes in some contexts. please don't hate me or think i'm insensitive, and i really don't want to see another flamewar break out, please. :)

i still think that BSD are more appropriate for enterprise-grade servers, for instance. so as much of a linux fanboy as i am, i know that it will not always fit into the open space in a jigsaw puzzle. but if you're interested in doing some linux gospel, i'd definitely have to recommend giving them a livecd instead of going ahead and installing linux. most people don't take kindly to suddenly being plunged into a new OS, just as some people would rather inch their way into a swimming pool to get used to the temperature and there are some (like me) who would rather just jump in all at once. there are different people; that's why there are different soaps. ;)

to quote What About Bob, "Baby steps." :)

Bill Gates is to hacking as Sid Vicious was to the Sex Pistols: no talent, everyone hates him, and he's just in it for the fame and money.
