I wasn't really thinking about routers, since the topic had diverged from that 
thread.
However, this approach would probably provide substantial space savings over a 
setup that required parsers/generators for each type of file, like existing 
web frontends.  Such an API would allow for pluggable backends & "frontends", 
so you could save a lot of size by only including the core parts.
