i find that windows converts tend to feel more comfortable in kde and
mac converts are more comfortable in gnome, if it helps any.

PCLinuxOS[1] seems to be the most windows-ish "feel" to GNU/Linux[2]
and yet still retain a decent community. there are other distros out
there that are more centered to providing a more windows-y
feel/interface, but they're either dead or their community sucks.

if he's used Vi$ta, there's also Vixta[3].

Last but not least, in order to fully maximise the ease of his
windows-> GNU/Linux transition, don't forget to leave him with
something he's familiar with [4]! (And the resulting[5] LGA crack[6])
