right, or testdisk, which is a collection of tools aimed at data
recovery/restoration. all wrapped up into a pretty nice curses gui.

it actually references gpart to accomplish the partition recovery, i
believe.

sysresccd (which is my preferred livecd mostly), knoppix, etc. almost
all the modern livecd's have gpart.
